If it’s true that most movie characters are based on real people, then Clark Griswold was the fictional depiction of your dad. He was totally “that guy,” cheesily subjecting his family to group activities in the spirit of “doing things together.”
He really took things over the top that one summer when he got all into exploring caves, or as he called it, “spelunking.” God, what a dweeb he was. Even your mom seemed to think so. Sure, she went along on his “spelunking” excursions to humor him, but she was content to relax on a blanket in a bikini while he put a stupid light on his head and disappeared into some rock formation for a few hours.
Of course, we were happy to tag along, even when we weren’t invited. Your dad would get all giddy because he thought we cared about caves. The real reason we wanted to go was because your mom was hot!
